Litter Pick-Up
This activity will help students to look at the relationships between individuals, their community and their environment, and consider the environmental consequences of their actions.
Overview
Activities
- Read the news article about Canadian shoreline litter with your class. Discuss the kinds of litter the students see in the community and where they have seen it.
- Discuss litter pick-up safety with your students (e.g. wear gloves, use grabbers/tongs, things that are unsafe to pick up like broken glass and needles).
- Collect litter from the school grounds or community spaces and decide how much of what has been collected is trash and how much could be recycled or re-used.
Extension Activities
- Find ways to make use of the reusable items where possible.
- Lead a community clean-up on Earth Day.
