There are lots of ways to start or promote a school recycling program. The most important step is to make sure there is a teacher helping to lead the effort and the principal is informed. Then start with the easiest items to recycle, for example, refundable drinks containers or paper/cardboard.
-
Some of the easiest and most common materials to recycle are: paper, bottles, cans, cardboard and plastic containers.

Zero Waste is a great goal. To get there, the school needs to act on all the R’s
- Refuse – single-use items and over-packaging
- Reduce – reduce waste by buying or preparing the right amounts
- Reuse – reuse and repair whenever possible
- Recycle – as much as possible
- Recover – recover resources -this includes composting food scraps
