This activity will help students to look at the relationships between individuals, their community and their environment, and consider the environmental consequences of their actions.
Read the news article about Canadian shoreline litter with your class. Discuss the kinds of litter the students see in the community and where they have seen it.
Discuss litter pick-up safety with your students (e.g. wear gloves, use grabbers/tongs, things that are unsafe to pick up like broken glass and needles).
Collect litter from the school grounds or community spaces and decide how much of what has been collected is trash and how much could be recycled or re-used.
